Under no circumstances buy this MCITP book set!

June 15, 2012

If you are thinking (or have started) study for you Microsoft MCITP Windows 2008 Enterprise Administrator certification and are thinking about buying the Microsoft Press study kit MAKE SURE YOU BUY THE SERVER 2008 R2 version of the kit released in October 2011, this is the Second Edition of the kit!

Note – ALL of the MCITP Windows Server 2008 exams are now based on R2 of the product.  If you study the non R2 version of the book written for Windows 2008 Server RTM (Release to Manufacturer) you will FAIL big time!  Now I know this isn’t exactly new news but I came across someone who made this mistake only a few months ago…

So in short, DO NOT BUY THIS…

This is the one to currently go for…

Fortunately at the time of writing Amazon have sold out of the old version of the book anyway.  I am sure there are a lot of copies out on Ebay though so don’t waste your money on the wrong one!

Tip – if you did buy the old version of the book it isn’t the end of the world.  You will just have to study up on all of the R2 features for the exams.  Make sure you look at the certification objectives for your exam on the Microsoft web site and then the Internet is your friend.  Also note Microsoft have a free Windows Server 2008R2 “What’s New” ebook available for download from the following link (this might help you a little bit):

Hope this helps and if you have any R2 tips for people taking the exams feel free to share them here!

P.S. I have the old version of the kit (bought before R2 was released) if anyone wants to buy it 😉
