Welcome!

June 14, 2012

Hi,

I’m Chris a soon to be 40 IT engineer who for some reason has decided to start a technology blog.  I’m on a journey to learn as much as I can about technology and thought it would be nice to post some stuff along the way.  I do hope someone out there finds a post useful or funny or something or other.

I started out in IT way back in 96 working on Novell NetWare 4 and clung onto that Novell train for along time working with all versions of NetWare though to v6 and specialising in GroupWise (verison 4 to 6.5).  I really only dropped out of that game about 3 years ago and for my sins I ended up selling my soul to Microsoft….I have ALOT of catching up to do on this front.

I am a certification junkie and I think a lot of my posts will be about my endeavours to hold every major certification on the planet.  No I am not joking…I am hooked on certs and here is a list of what I have so far…

Certified Novell Engineer NetWare 4, 5 and 6

Certified Novell Engineer GroupWise 4 and 5

Novell Specialist Certificate GroupWise 6

Novell Master CNE

CompTIA Network+

CompTIA Project+

CompTIA Security+

Microsoft MCSA Windows 2000

Microsoft MCSA and MCSE Windows 2003 +Messaging +Security

Microsoft MCTS ISA Server 2007, Windows 7, Active Directory 2008

Microsoft MCITP Enterprise Messaging Administrator Exchange 2007

VMware Certified Professional vSphere 4 and vSphere 5

Phew!

So here is my list of things to do…

MCITP Windows 2008 Server Enterprise Administrator and R2 Virtualisation

MCITP Exchange 2010

MCTS SCCM 2007 and SCOM 2007 (then upgrade to 2012!)

MCTS SQL 2008 (not sure what the SQL 2012 certs are yet!).

Microsoft MCSE 2012.

Cisco CCNA/CCNP

Citrix and VMware View Certs

Some enterprise storage certs (NetApp/EMC)

Some security certs (maybe)

I do change my mind every other day on certs I am sure you will notice that in future posts!

At the moment I am studying Sharepoint 2010 for  a new contract I am hopefully starting next week (after 3 months off on a “study break”.  It’s early days and I have only just got it installed in my lab…..

I hope someone out there finds this blog useful.  I’m obviously not a “world leader” in any type of tech.  I’m just a regular guy who wants to share his experiences.  Maybe some of it will help someone along the way…

Well thanks for reading and on with the show…I mean blog….
